VetHealth Broad Spectrum oil for bunnies? Of course!

Although more and more pet owners are starting to see the benefits of CBD/CBG oil, there is still a frequent question in our inbox – should I give my rabbit VetHealth Broad Spectrum oil?

Unfortunately, there is still surprisingly little information on the web about the use of CBD/CBG products on rabbits – so here's a quick guide to the basic topics.

The endocannabinoid system in rabbits

Now, as far back as 1988, a group of scientists came across receptors in the brain of rats that responded positively to cannabinoids. Soon, the existence of the endocannabinoid system was confirmed in all other mammals. It means cannabinoid compounds naturally exist in rabbits and regulate basic body processes, such as sleep, appetite, or mood.

The research was then expanded to test the effects of the phytocannabinoid CBD on small mammals inside the laboratory. CB1 and CB2 receptors have been found to attract CBD to stimulate a response that affects the health of the whole organism.

Is VetHealth oil safe for rabbits?

Most research on the effects of cannabinoids is conducted on small mammals such as rabbits. So far, little or no side effects have been reported when using CBD at the appropriate dose. However, THC is toxic to rabbits, so we recommend VetHealth Broad Spectrum oil with 0% THC and no terpenes.

Unfortunately, even though we try to make both owners and veterinarians aware of the effects of CBD and CBG on pet health, most consider it still more of a vitamin or dietary supplement and less of a medicine. CBD oil has been an integral part of the holistic approach to animal health abroad for some time. It prevents decay and slows down the aging of all our pets, including rabbits.

Advantages of VetHealth oil for rabbits

As with dogs and cats, VetHealth oil can reduce joint pain and provide relief for older rabbits. They are also helpful in treating epileptic and similar convulsions and mood problems (many rabbits suffer from anxiety), not to mention combating the adverse effects of aging. Unfortunately, our rabbits cannot tell us directly when they are in pain. Still, every pet owner should recognize external indicators of pain, such as limping, lack of mobility, or withdrawal from touch (especially in rabbits that are used to being petted).

Whether it's the usual aches and pains from jumping around too much in seniors blissfully unaware of their age or the pains from a more acute injury, VetHealth can help. Cannabinoids within the body target specific receptors that modulate pain. By binding to these receptors, CBD helps relieve your rabbit's discomfort by modulating pain signals.

CBD against convulsions and epilepsy

The antiepileptic effects of CBD are already known - the first studies were done on rats (and only later on dogs) - which are biologically quite similar to rabbits, even though rats are rodents and rabbits are lagomorphs. Because seizures are the abnormal firing of neurons, regular administration of VetHealth Broad Spectrum oil can calm your rabbit's symptoms; reduce the frequency of seizures, and/or make them less pronounced.

CBD for anxiety

Rabbits are known for their activity and curiosity. However, sometimes they can feel anxiety and even depression, especially if they are kept alone and in inadequate conditions (friends of the same species are very important to rabbits). If you notice that your rabbit is depressed, take it seriously because mood disorders are just as real in our pets as in us. Although you should always talk to your vet first and get a diagnosis, you can also contact us! (LINK TO CONTACT FORM) Taking CBD helps with natural mood regulation - by controlling the hormonal balance in the rabbit's brain, CBD and the endocannabinoid system help your rabbit to respond better to stress, environmental changes (moving, household changes) or just plain loneliness (though, consider getting another rabbit, and of course – neuter both).

VetHealth for senior rabbits

VetHealth also affects brain health. Combining healthy omega-3 fats with cannabidiol in 100% pure, organic hemp oil grown in Croatia, free of pesticides and heavy metals, provides vital nutrients for neuron health. Healthy fats form cell membranes that transmit signals within the brain, and cannabinoids act as antioxidants in the fight against dangerous inflammation and neuron degeneration. VetHealth Broad Spectrum oil can improve memory, learning, and mood in your long-eared senior friend.

How to give VetHealth to a rabbit?

If he is used to you touching his mouth and teeth, it is best to put a few drops of oil on your finger and rub it into the gums. If you put them in food, the effects will be significantly reduced. Another option is to massage the recommended dose into the tips of his ears since the transdermal application is scientifically proven. Be careful not to rub it into the same ear every time to avoid skin irritation (noted only in rare cases, but still - be careful).

Does VetHealth Broad Spectrum oil have side effects?

No, especially with the correct dosage.

What is the best dose of VetHealth oil for rabbits?

There is no universal dose for rabbits since there are several breeds of rabbits (and thus a lot of variation in weight). Also, each problem has its dosage depending on the age.
